Shaker Controllers

A shaker controller is a device that translates the test engineer's instructions (vibration profile) into specific commands for the shaker to follow. This ensures the product undergoes the exact shaking scenario required for testing.

Spider-80M MIMO Vibration Test Controller

Based on Spider-80Xi Architecture: The Spider-80M platform is based on the efficient Spider-80Xi architecture and is dedicated to MIMO vibration test control and MIMO structural testing applications. Each Spider-80M chassis features 8 outputs capable of carrying out 6-degree of freedom MIMO vibration testing. One Spider-80M chassis and multiple Spider-80Xi chassis can chain together to form a very large system with up to 504 input channels. Expand Channel Count: In a Spider-80M hardware chassis a master module with 8-inputs and 8-outputs will always be installed. This master module takes the space of two slots of Spider-80Xi module in the S80M-A35-8N chassis. Up to 6 additional Spider-80Xi front-end modules can be inserted to form a system with 8 outputs and up to 56 inputs. The Spider-80M chassis can combine with multiple Spider-80Xi chassis to form a system with up to 504 input channels, all sampled simultaneously. Accurate time synchronization results in excellent phase match in the frequency domain between all channels, either on the same Spider front-end or across different front-ends. Channel phase match, even between separate Spider front-ends, is within 1.0 degree at 20 kHz which is suitable for high quality structural and acoustics applications requiring cross channel measurement. Mass Storage: A high-performance removable 2.5-inch solid-state drive is used as storage media. When recorded, data will be written in the NTFS file format. Data is extracted from the Spider-NAS using Crystal Instruments software to transfer data to the PC. Alternatively, the solid-state drive can be physically removed and connected to extract data to the PC. When it is shipped, a 250 GB solid-state drive is installed internally. The drive can be upgraded up to 2 TB. The solid-state drive performs very well in the high shock and vibration environment. A special error-checking algorithm developed by Crystal Instruments detects and avoids any errors that may occur in the data transfer and storage. Time Synchronization: Through the Ethernet connection, multiple Spider-80Xi or Spider-80M chassis can be synchronized through the IEEE 1588v2 protocol. The synchronization accuracy is within nanoseconds when a specified network switch is used. The data acquired by all the measurement channels will be on the same time base. Phase match between channels across different Spider front-ends is within nanoseconds.

Spider-81/81B: Vibration Test Controller

DSP Centralized Architecture Unlike traditional vibration test controllers that rely heavily on an external computer for real-time operation, the Spider-81 is the first vibration controller that directly integrates time-synchronized Ethernet connectivity with embedded DSP technology. This strategy greatly increases the control performance, system reliability and failure protection of the vibration test controller. It also allows a large number of channels to be configured without sacrificing system performance. Latest Hardware Design: Spider-81 vibration test controllers have voltage, charge, TEDS, and IEPE inputs which are ideal for shock, vibration and acoustic measurement or general purpose voltage measurement. The internal flash memory stores test configuration data for controlling up to 64 channels simultaneously in addition to storing real-time analysis data. Multiple output channels provide various signal output waveforms that are synchronized with the input sampling rate. A bright LCD screen displays testing status information. Ten monitoring connections on each unit are used to read signals of analog inputs and outputs. Built-in isolated digital I/O and RS-485 serial ports enable interfacing with other hardware. Simple Network Connection: Ethernet connectivity allows the Spider-81 vibration test controller to be physically located far from the host computer. This distributed structure greatly reduces the noise and electrical interference in the system. One computer monitors and controls multiple controllers over the network. Since all the control processing and data recording are executed locally inside the controller, the network connection will not affect the control reliability. Time Synchronization Between Multiple Test Controllers: The Spider-81 vibration test controller is built on IEEE 1588 time synchronization technology. Spider-81 vibration test controllers on the same network are synchronized within nanoseconds. With such unique technology and high-speed Ethernet data transfer, the distributed components on the network truly act as one integrated system.

Spider-80Xi & Spider-80X

The Spider-80X is designed for vibration test control. Each front-end features eight analog input channels and two channels that may be software selected as analog outputs for vibration control. A single Spider-80X front-end is a complete two output controller with the same high quality patented dual ADC input technology of the Spider-81 series. On the other hand, the Spider-80Xi is a compact version of Spider-80X with an extremely lightweight form factor, its dimensions and weight permit it to be carried even in one hand and is optimal for field environment testing where portability is essential.
